1. Candidates for Reader Member Board Representative (one position)

Harjap Grewal (ELECTED) is a grassroots organizer who has been working with the No One Is Illegal Campaign, the Olympic Resistance Network and in the South Asian community. He has been interested in and studied the political economy of communications, media democracy movements and medical communications. Harjap is currently working as the BC-Yukon regional organizer with the Council of Canadians.

Ben Powless is a Mohawk student at Carleton University, studying Human Rights, Indigenous Peoples and the Environment. He is a founding member of the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition and a climate policy analyst for the Indigenous Environmental Network. He has served on the board of directors of the Odawa Native Friendship Centre in Ottawa, where he currently lives. In his spare time he also contributes as a writer and photojournalist for The Dominion and other media, focusing on Indigenous struggles, youth involvement, environmental justice and social justice concerns generally.

"I would like to help expand The Dominion's reach while contributing some of my experience in the issues covered and making sure that things can run smoothly for staff and contributors."

2. Candidates for Journalist Member Board Representative (one position)

Tracy Glynn (ELECTED) is an activist from the Miramichi who currently resides in Fredericton where she works as the Acadian Forest Campaigner with the Conservation Council of New Brunswick. She has a keen interest in environmental justice and eradicating Canadian mining abuses overseas and at home, which is rooted in her time spent at mine affected communities in Indonesia and graduate work on mine pollution. She has written a number of articles for the Dominion and is a co-editor of the Mines and Communities website. She is also an active member of the Fredericton Peace Coalition, Fredericton Palestine Solidarity, the Maritimes-Guatemala Breaking the Silence Network and the Atlantic Regional Solidarity Network. She teaches a course on environmental praxis at St. Thomas University.

"I would like to be more engaged in the Dominion in the way of supporting in different capacities the coverage of stories of the grassroots and the challenging of the media monopoly model in New Brunswick and elsewhere."

Tim McSorley is a Montreal-based journalist and activist. He began contributing to The Dominion in 2007, first as a writer and copy editor, and, since early 2008, as Media Analysis section editor. He has been involved in several independent media initiatives since 2002, including co-founding and sitting on the editorial collective of Siafu Magazine in Montreal from 2005 to 2007. He currently hosts Le lendemain de la veille (a French language news & culture morning show) on CKUT 90.3FM community campus radio in Montreal. He also works for the National Film Board's CitizenShift as their podcast coordinator.

"The quality, consistency and the drive of the Dominion and the folks involved have never ceased to amaze and inspire me about what is possible for independent, grassroots media. I am excited about the possibilities that a co-op model offers, and hope to sit on the board in order to work with staff and contributors achieve their goals for the Dominion, aid in spreading the word about the newspaper, and help with fundraising efforts."
