Sham elections in Honduras

by Macho Philipovich Canadian Foreign Policy, →Honduras

Honduras held presidential, parliamentary, and local elections on Sunday, but most Latin American countries have not recognized the results, since they were carried out under the coup government of Roberto Micheletti, which deposed the elected goverment of Manuel Zelaya on June 28th of this year.  Boycotts of the elections were organized, with many Hondurans refusing to refer to them as anything other than "the event".

Tyler Shipley just returned from a week-long delegation to Honduras, where he blogged about his experiences.  He spoke to Black Mask about  the situation over the phone from Toronto, encouraging Canadians to sign an on-line petition urging Canada not to recognize the elections.
