One of the major events that marked 2011 on mcgill campus was the november 10^th province wide student strike and the shocking riot police intervention after a group of students had occupied the administration building at McGill.

In response to these events, which raised fundamental questions regarding academic freedom and the nature of the university, a group of historians held a round table discussion on history of the university and the police at McGill, across Canada and in international context called “The University and the Police – Canadian and International Perspectives”.

Catherine LeGrand spoke about police violence in universities in Latin America.
