CKUT's Off the Hour: the history of police violence at universities

One of the major events that marked 2011 on mcgill campus was the november 10th province wide student strike and the shocking riot police intervention after a group of students had occupied the administration building at McGill.

In response to these events, which raised fundamental questions regarding academic freedom and the nature of the university, a group of historians held a round table discussion on history of the university and the police at McGill, across Canada and in international context called “The University and the Police – Canadian and International Perspectives”.

Catherine LeGrand spoke about police violence in universities in Latin America.
