FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

1ST ANNUAL ECOTOUR OF SUSTAINABLE SUDBURY – SATURDAY MAY 12TH, 2012
BROUGHT TO YOU BY RETHINK GREEN AND THE COALITION FOR A LIVEABLE SUDBURY

SUDBURY, ON – Are you interested in learning more about environmental initiatives happening across Sudbury and visiting and experiencing sustainable eco-sites first hand? Then reThink Green’s Sustainable Sudbury EcoTour is something you do not want to miss!

On Saturday May 12th, you can take part in one of two (FREE!) guided bus tours OR plan your own self-guided route to explore on your own. We encourage everyone to take the challenge to walk, bike, and/or bus to your destinations. A separate cycling tour led by the Sudbury Cyclists Union if also being offered. Please visit www.earthdaysudbury.ca for complete details on each stop, including site description, location and tour times.

Highlights of the tour include a car crushing demo at a metal recycling facility, interpretive nature walks along Junction Creek, a visit to an organic farm and straw bale house in Wanup, tours of LEED certified buildings as well as stops at local community gardens. If planning a self-guided route, be sure to take part in some of the activities not included in the bus tours. These include The ‘Walkable Neighbourhood’ guided walking tour of the Donovan, departing at 11am from Victory Park and a guided hike through a newly established urban green space located behind the former St. Michael’s School, departing from the trailhead at the south end of St. Nicholas St. at 12:30pm.

Both bus tours will begin and end at Victory Park where River & Sky Arts in the Woods will be hosting The Big Recycle Yard Sale fundraiser. Myths and Mirrors will also be leading Artful Transformations – a community art project utilizing salvaged materials otherwise destined for the landfill. Be sure to check it out before you head home!

Jenny Martindale, Chair of the Earth Month Planning Committee says, “Given the success of similar tours in Sudbury, like the popular art studio and home tours, we thought an EcoTour highlighting sustainable projects and initiatives would be a unique and educational spin on a fun activity - and perfect for Earth Month! Offering two guided bus tours where people can travel together - as opposed to individual vehicles - as well as a walking and cycling route, also gives people several eco-friendly options”.

To book your (FREE) spot on a guided tour bus, please contact reThink Green at 705-674-1685 or info@rethinkgreen.ca. Bus tours will begin at Victory Park on Frood Road at 10am and run through until approximately 4pm. Participants are asked to pack their own litterless lunch and beverages.
