Thursday, June 21: Stakeholder Input Session for Lake Huron North Channel Bike Route

Time: 7pm
Location: School of Architecture office at 111 Larch Street

As a result of the Northern Ontario Bike Summit in 2011, an outline for a proposed bike route along the Lake Huron North Channel between the Cities of Sault Ste. Marie and Greater Sudbury has been developed. A cycling route connecting these cities and the communities between them can highlight key destinations and attractions, and provide economic, tourism, health and environmental benefits for residents and visitors alike.

We are looking for your input in moving ahead with the study to develop this route. A stakeholder input session will be held on Thursday, June 21st at 7:00pm, to be hosted at the School of Architecture office at 111 Larch Street. Parking will be available free-of-charge after 6:00pm at the Tom Davies Square underground lot across from Memorial Park (or better yet, bike if you can!) Feel free to share this information with the key members of your organization.

Please RSVP by e-mailing your attendance to emily.trottier@sudbury.ca by Wednesday, June 20th.

Saturday, June 23: Screening of "De-Railed: The National Dream"

Time: 7pm
Location: Laurentian University, room A226
Cost: $7

The Coalition for Algoma Passenger Trains and Canadian Federation of Students invite you to attend a screening of De-Railed: The National Dream, by documentary film maker Dan Nystedt on Saturday June 23rd, 2012 Laurentian University room A226 at 7:00PM. De-Railed: The National Dream, is a documentary examining the crumbling state of the Canadian railway system. Having lost more than 10,000 kilometres of track since 1990, why has Canada allowed it’s “ribbon of rail” to become so tattered? This film is an excellent tool for educating the public on the urgency of the current rail situation and the need for action to be done to prevent the loss of more rail. This film was screened on May 30th on the Ontario National Railway’s journey from Cochrane to North Bay and is now scheduled to play at the Transport Action Canada Annual General Meeting this Saturday. Saturday June 23rd will be the debut screening of De-Railed: The National Dream in Sudbury. This film is very timely given the recent announcements by both federal and Ontario governments to cut passenger rail service in Northern Ontario.

Tickets are $7.00 and can be purchased at the door. All are welcome to attend. Sponsored by the Laurentian University Graduate Student Association.
