Friday, August 24: Honouring March4Justice

Time: 10am
Location: N'Swakamok Native Friendship Centre, 110 Elm Street, Sudbury

You are welcome to attend the honouring of the March4Justice walkers
which will take place at 10:00 am at the N'Swakaomk Native Friendship
Centre. Baskatawang will be giving a small presentation on March4Justice
at the Honouring event on August 24, 2012. All press and community
members are welcome to attend this free event. A light lunch will
follow.

About March4Justice: Leo Baskatawang and fellow walkers/supporters
commenced their journey form Vancouver in the spring to bring awareness
to the government of Canada's apparent unwillingness to address critical
Aboriginal issues in a timely and effective manner. They will end their
journey in Ottawa, Ontario on September 3, 2012 at the Parliament
building.

Baskatawang has chained a copy of the Indian Act to his ankle. He says
that the Indian Act is "a notoriously relic piece of federal legislation
that has subjugated Aboriginal peoples to archaic colonial policy...It's
time we put an Aboriginal person in charge of the Department of
Aboriginal Affairs; it is imperative that the person who is elected to
the position of Head of Aboriginal Affairs, by Aboriginal peoples, is
not affiliated to any political party" said Baskatawang.

Leo Baskatawang has also created a petition to change federal policy and
legislation which will be given to the federal government upon his
arrival in Ottawa, Ontario in September 2012. You can find the petition
