A People's Forecast launch in Hamilton

On Saturday, April 23rd at the Skydragon, Mayday Magazine is hosting a party to launch the special issue of the Dominion about climate change. For those of you who don't know, The Dominion Media Co-op is, in my opinion, one of the best news sources in the country today, and once a year they release a special issue going further in depth on an issue. This year, that issue is Climate Justice, which is a big, complicated scary issue, and so we figured, what better way to introduce it to you all than to throw a big giant party with lots of radical hip hop and spoken word?

For those of you who don't know them yet, Red Slam  "is a 5 member artist collective expressing their creativity through their Okra (story) and their Owena (word) in the spirit of indigenous oral traditions using contemporary poetry performance through the development of creative writing through visualization, music, and multi-media." They offer great grooves, insightful lyrics, and they haven't been in town for a while, so don't miss this chance to catch them live!

Kahsenniyo is a spoken-word artist who will be weaving her thoughtful and elegant poetry through the themes of the evening, and Lee Reed will also be joining us on the stage, and he needs no introduction in this city.

Other artists are still being arranged, so keep checking back at The Martello, Hamilton's new DIY and radical events listing page, for more details. (Have you like'd the Martello on ol FB?)

Doors are at 8pm and music will start at 9pm. We're asking $10 pay-what-you-can at the door, which will include a copy of the Dominion's special issue on climate justice. No one will be turned away due to brokeness though, so come one out.
