Howard Zinn died today. He was 87 years old. The historian and longtime civil rights activist helped to shatter many myths of American history with his seminal A People's History of the United States. He remained active and critical throughout his life. While he rejoiced to see Barack Obama elected as the first African-American president of the United States, he remained cautious and called on Obama supporters to remain alert, organised and critical.
I missed his last visit to Montreal, but had the pleasure of working on audio from that last visit for a podcast for CITIZENShift. Take a listen and thanks to Evan Light, who interviewed Zinn.
