In a modern society that is striving for gender equality, it is important to reflect back on the journey for women to be equally represented in the media. Having a lifetime of experience, research and practice in the field of Journalism, Linda Kay will discuss how the industry has developed since women first began writing and working as journalists. This free workshop will include a practical component with tips and advice on how to break into the modern media industry.
In the Spring of 2012 Linda Kay released The Sweet Sixteen, a book that unearthed some of Canadian histories most prominent women in Journalism. Throughout her own career as a Journalist Linda has been a freelance columnist for Montreal’s Gazette, The Chicago Tribune and a freelance magazine writer for Chatelaine, Reader’s Digest, Inside Sports, Newsweek, People, Ladies Home Journal and Ottawa Magazine. She now works as an Associate Professor and is the Chair of the Department of Journalism at Concordia University and regularly tours for her new book.
