A screen capture of Saskatchewan's Active Wildfire Website from today shows a strong start to what might become one of the worst wildfire seasons in recent history.

As I've written before, the average number, size and intensity of wildfires has been gradually going up for decades. Also, as I've written before, this is in keeping with predictions of increased forest fires worldwide due to climate change made by climate scientists.

But still, it's only halfway through May, the snow only melted near the end of April, and with 148 wildfires so far this year, Saskatchewan has already suprassed it's 5-year annual average of 85 wildfires.  (UPDATE:  Now adjusted to 194 fires to a 5 year average of 140 as of May 25, 2018).

Some communities have already been evacuated, included Crutwell, Holbein and Waterhen Lake, more are expected to be in the near future, opening the possibility of another wildfire related 'refugee crisis' similar to the summer of 2015.
