The Canadian Association of Labour Media (CALM) is seeking a part-time associate editor. The individual will work closely with CALM’s executive editor and be responsible for overseeing CALM’s finances and administration, communicating with membership, and helping organize trainings and conferences.

This is a one-year position, with possibility of renewal, located in Ontario or Québec.

We are looking for an individual who has experience in the labour movement and an understanding of the challenges labour faces, who is organized and can work independently, who has prepared budgets and is familiar with administrative software, and who has worked in strategic communications or media.

Tasks

  • Maintain membership database
  • Coordinate membership communication and outreach
  • Financial administration, such as budget and audit preparation
  • Help organize the yearly CALM conference
  • Curate website and social media
  • Liaise with the CALM editor and CALM executive

Qualifications

  • Experience in a labour organization and history of working within labour movement
  • Experience with database management
  • Fundraising experience
  • Experience with event-planning
  • Familiarity with office admin software (word processing, spreadsheets)
  • Ability to work autonomously

Assets

  • Editing and writing experience
  • Experience with web publishing tools and social media 
  • Experience with design & desktop publishing software
  • Experience working within mainstream or independent media

This is a 20hr/week one-year contract located in Ontario or Québec. Salary is approximately $30,000.
