The Media Co-op is Hiring: Bookkeeper

The Media Co-op is hiring a part-time Bookkeeper. The individual will be in charge of accounts receivable, accounts payable, monthly bank reconciliations, and payroll, and will report directly to the Board. This is a one-year position, with possibility of renewal.  Applicants are welcome to apply from anywhere in the country, however applicants located in Montreal or Halifax are especially encouraged to apply .

We are looking for an individual with strong organizational skills who enjoys working with numbers.  The ideal candidate will have experience with Bookkeeping and Simply Accounting, but the Media Co-op will consider training the right applicant who is committed to the organization's success. We are seeking a bi-lingual candidate as some of our banking is done in Quebec.

The successful applicant will join our team of editors and contributors located across Canada to work on the Media Co-op, a network of local, grassroots, online news outlets, which also
publishes The Dominion magazine.

Experience/skills:

    •     Familiarity with Simply Accounting
    •     Familiaritly with Excel
    •     Experience working in a collective environment, both in person & virtually
    •     Monthly reconciliation and financial reports
    •     Processing payroll with our payroll company
    •     Working with our accountant to prepare year end verification
    •    Self motivated and ability to work autonomously
    •    Strong organizational skills
    •    Enjoys working with numbers and spreadsheets
    •    Committed to independent media and social justice

This is a virtual position; candidates must have access to a computer and internet connection. The position is for 16 hours per month, at a pay rate of $15.00 an hour.
