“Toronto Community Mobilization Network holds press conference: Top 10 Reasons to Oppose the G8/G20”

Toronto -- The Toronto Community Mobilization Network is holding a press conference this morning at 10am at the Steelworkers' Hall, 25 Cecil Street, Toronto to highlight reasons for opposition and resistance to the G8/G20 and their agendas.

“The mobilizations in June are concerned with our ongoing struggle for social justice,” says Sharmeen Khan of the Toronto Community Mobilization Network. "The attendees of the G8 and G20 summits represent the interests of a wealthy few and are responsible for creating policies and institutions that destroy communities and the environment.”

The Toronto Community Mobilization Network consists of grassroots organizations, people of colour, Indigenous people, poor and working class people, women, queer, and disabled people. “We have come together to support each other in our daily struggle to stand up for the rights of our families, our communities, and our environment,” says Syed Hussan of the network.

Members of different organizations will be speaking on Indigenous Sovereignty, Income Equity and Poverty, Disability Rights, Gender Justice, Labour Rights, Environmental and Climate Justice, Queer Rights, Migrant Justice and Anti-War and Occupation.

The Network will also be revealing some of the public events taking place from June 21-27, 2010.
