Guelph—From Vancouver to Halifax, Windsor to Sudbury communities mobilized today to send a clear message to Tim Hortons and all bad bosses that workers and our allies will not stand for their undermining of our rights.

In Guelph, members and allies of Guelph and District Labour Council picketed outside of the 28 Wellington St. East Tim Hortons location to great success. Members of our community strongly supported our call for the restoration of paid breaks, access to basic drug and dental benefits, uniform and drink allowances, and a full restoration of employees’ hours of work across the country.

“We can’t let Tim Hortons’ franchisees, Restaurant Brands International, and other corporations’ tactical moves against workers in retaliation for minimum wage increases go unpunished and unheard.” said Janice Folk-Dawson, President for Labour Council

Tim Hortons is part of a wildly profitable multinational corporation. In 2016, the coffee giant generated US$3.00 billion in revenue for its parent company Restaurant Brands International(RBI). That same year RBI CEO Daniel Schwartz pocketed $6,173,993 in wages, stock options and other perks. And, we know they’re not the only high-rolling corporation acting against workers.

“While they and other bosses been caught in some places, Guelph and District Labour Council is encouraging members of our community to report wage and tip theft, benefit denial, and other pathetic tactics to the Workers’ Action Centre” said Brad Evoy, Recording Secretary for Labour Council.

We encourage all Guelphites to report their bad bosses to the Workers’ Action Centre’s Hotline at 1-855-531-0778 or (416) 531-0778
