Come join us to Speak, Drum and Pray in Support of Jordan’s Principle

In the four years since Jordan’s Principle was endorsed by the House of Commons, implementation has stalled.

Governments are still thinking of their bottom line instead of the interests of the children they have a duty of care toward. Governments are still sorting children into silos, saying we are responsible for these children but not for those, or that it is only responsible for some services, not others.

Our work is not done until all governments in Canada have an implementation plan for Jordan’s Principle that does not discriminate based on where children live, their status or the colour of their skin. (Jean Crowder, MP Statement on Jordan's Principle for Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs national call for full implementation).

Maurina Beadle and Pictou Landing Band Council filed an application against the Government of Canada, on June 24, asserting that the government is failing to provide adequate and comparable health care services to Maurina and her son, Jeremy Meawasige, both members of Pictou Landing.  The application further states that this failure to provide comparable services is contrary to Jordan's Principle, the "child first" approach adopted by the Government of Canada in 2007.

We are holding a rally to:

Support Maurina Beadle and Philippa Pictou as they are cross-examined by Canada

Show you want all children to have access to the care they need regardless of where they live, who they are or the colour of their skin.

And to raise awareness that First Nations are still losing children from their communities as a result of government policy and we want it to stop
