Climate Justice Activists Occupy Jim Prentice's Calgary Office

As of 10:00 am (MST), a group of Canadians have occupied the Calgary office of Federal Environment Minister Jim Prentice to demand Canada take an active role in mitigating the effects of change.  The group, made up of Prentice's consituents and others, has demanded that Prentice sign on to an agreement to lower Canadian emmissions to 25% below 1990 levels by 2020, considered the minimum level of reduction to avoid irreversable and catastrophic changes in global climate.

This is stated to be the first of a number of actions targetting Canadian politicians, tar sands developers and financiers of destructive enterprises across the nation in the run-up to the Copenhagen conference in December.

Canada has been accused by the international community of blocking real progress towards a sustainable future, largely due to its place as home to the Alberta Tar Sands.

At this point the action is still ongoing, and those involved are asking Canadians to let Prentice know that they support the action and the demands being made by calling or emailing him, he can be reached @:
