UPDATE: Regarding this morning's release, the action began as planned but ended much earlier than expected.

Went up to roof at 8 a.m., police arrived around 8:30, they brought a ladder around 9:40, came down to avoid making the police have to climb up, was charged with mischief and released around 11:30 this morning. Police were polite and professional as always. Pictures attached.

Climate Ground Zero activist Daniel Johnson will be occupying the overhang roof of the Service Canada building at the corner of 11th Ave. and Rose Street in downtown Regina beginning this morning, Monday October 21, to draw attention to our current federal government's severe inaction on environmental issues, particularily climate change.

The Prime Minister’s refusal to join world leaders last month at the UN Climate Summit, as well as our government's continuing pattern of denial and obstruction in relation to climate issues, have embarassed this country on the international stage.

Cuts to scientific research are going to compound the problems already being created through this government's lack of transparent environmental oversight and failure to introduce tougher penalties for major environmental crimes.

Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions are supposed to be slowing rather than growing, and we are now almost gauranteed to fail in meeting our agreed-to 2020 emissions reduction targets.

The occupation of the overhang roof at the Service Canada building will last a few days.

Climate Ground Zero was started in 2005 by direct action campaigner Mike Roselle to address the problems caused by mountain top removal coal mining in West Virginia.
