Student Solidarity Speaking Tour
July 12th, 2012
The University of Ottawa
Resistance. For many of us it has become a part of our lives. We refuse to accept inequality and inefficiency. There is an opportunity to shape our world and yet too often we simply write the wrongs.
Hosted by the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS) the Québec Student Strike Solidarity Tour began at Ottawa University. The panel of speakers included Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, Spokesperson of la CLASSE, Audrey Deveault, Chaiperson of Dawson Students' Union at Cégep Dawson and Marianne Breton Fontaine, former executive member of the student union at Cégep du Vieux Montréal. They presented a clear message. They spoke honestly. The success of the Québec Student movement has come from years of preparation and perseverance. Tireless work came from the grassroots. Thousands attended General Assemblies. Collectively they have orchestrated the longest student strike in Canadian history. Throughout the presentation you could feel the apprehensive hope in the air. The theory of combative resistance was emphasized. The Québec Student movement is inspirational due to the risks they are willing to take. Blockading classes to ensure their democratic strike be respected brought them controversy. Defying loi 78 in what could be the largest act of civil disobedience in Canadian history brought them infamy.
Our solidarity is with the Québec Student movement. No matter the struggle the lesson is appearant. Alors prends l'action. Nos influences sont immenses.
