Local 1005 Video #1 (Wee Rock/Cookie Grannies)

This video was shot and produced in Hamilton, Ontario.  The situation in Hamilton between U.S. Steel and the steelworkers of Hamilton Local 1005 provides a case study on the affect of capitalism and free trade on the working class.  These corporations are allowed to buy up the Canadian manufcaturing sector, only to force concessions on the workers, and eventually shut down manufacturing facilities.

In a world system where economies are based on a global network of importing and exporting, Canada is now forced to import its steel from the United States, while Canadians lose their jobs.  America reaps the benefits of the Alberta tar sands projects, as well as benefitting from being the main supplier of Canada's steel.  This is the concentration of power into the hands of the few, and the forced flow of materials based on capitalist ideologies that are rammed down our throats by a ruthless ruling class that wishes to control all facets of the planet Earth.
